Inside the above folder, you should see music files in this format- Also, make sure to rename those files to proper names. Note: To save this hassle, you could simply download the song free to your computer from your Google Play Music library website. It isnt polite of you to mislead people into thinking it is in the system folder. So prob the download to pc option for people as that may have art and info.
We previously covered both options here. I opted for the in-app method and it only took a few minutes for my entire Google Play Music library to migrate to YouTube Music. As far as I can tell, everything made the move intact.
It also exports the metadata for tracks, playlists and radio stations as. CSV files. I read some similar posts that pointed to these directories, but some others that said this was for older versions.
My version is 6. It's really obnoxious that these apps refuse to play with each other nicely. Google and Samsung just have to kiss and make up, because it's ridiculous that Google apps can only talk to Google, and Samsung can only talk to Samsung. I shouldn't have to scurry around looking for all this.
It's an invented problem to help ensure monopoly ecosystems and frustrated customers. Note that these files are named [some-id]. So just copying them from this location will be difficult to determine what song they are.
Not only that, as GiantTree mentions, the files are encrypted, so even if you copy them off, you cannot play them. It requires Google Play Music to play them. Simply plug in your phone and change the setting on the phone to "File Transfer" without the quotes. All three still work as of the time of this writing, although that may change as the service comes closer and closer to retirement.
Use this one, trust us. This is actually just a manual, more granular version of the faster, better method. You can simply select the songs you want. We looked in the app settings on both platforms and there are no options to download your library.
We attempted a few methods to bypass this, including using a browser in desktop mode and trying to trick Google Play Music into letting us download something. We figured out how to get all the way to the Download album option using Firefox , but we never got the site to actually send us any files because we could not install the proper extension. Since Chrome OS comes with Chrome Browser by default, we highly recommend the quicker, better method or the manual method described above. If we missed anything, sound off in the comments!
